Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
